Project
Impact of the LIGNOFLAG project
At the same time, the project demonstrates the commercial feasibility of the advanced biofuel and lays the foundation for a wide-scale implementation of advanced biofuels production in Europe. By creating a sustainable and competitive source of domestic renewable energy in the EU, LIGNOFLAG supports the transformation from a fossil-based to a bio-based, circular economy in Europe.
This investment also brings substantial economic benefits to the Podari region. The first-of-its-kind facility is creating new green jobs, business opportunities and economic growth in a rural area. New employees will be needed for the operation of the plant, for the logistics of straw processing as well as on the fields. Over 800 people were involved in the construction of the plant. Especially the regional farmers will benefit from economic growth as the sale of unused straw is an additional source of income for them. Additional business opportunities will also arise along the regional value chain for farmers and local service providers, e.g. for baling and transport of the straw.
